Monologue Commission

In Dungeons & Dragons, there are no good or bad decisions. Whatever your character says or does, just roll the dice and fate decides the outcome.

But in real life, Alex doesn't find it so easy. Tonight, she has to speak to her gaming group about something, and there are no dice to determine how the conversation will play out.

Roll to React explores the harm that racial microaggressions cause long after the moment has passed, and how minoritised people carry the weight of deciding how to react. Do you speak up or stay silent? Does the right way to react even exist?

All plays will be performed script-in-hand, by professional actors, after a short rehearsal period.

  • Themes of racism and anxiety with mention of sexual harassment. Brief violent imagery.

Age recommendation 14+, with parental discretion. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Meet You at the Corner by Laura Wilson and Everyone We Know Has Kids by Samuel Sims and Jay Grainger, will be presented with Roll to React. Only one ticket is required.

Meet Michelle in our Meet the Writers events, each morning of the festival at 9:30am at Stage@TheDock.
